Windows Media Player version number

    How can I find what version of WMP is on my computer? I run XP Home, and my computer is an HP Pavilion a1550y.

    I have a new iRiver Clix MP3, and the installation CD is supposed to have WMP 11 on it; supposedly my computer has WMP 10, but I can't verify this. Until I know what version I have I can't install the player, and maybe even after I find out I'll still have a problem. However, the more information I can dig up to pass on the iRiver tech support, the better off I'll be.

    Open WMP. Right click on an empty area at the top then scroll down to Help. Select About Windows Media Player.

    OK, I've done that, and I've managed to download WMP 10. Now I get the following message: "This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site. "

    WMP and XP Home incompatible???
