    Hi,

I have a most odd problem with regard to the Windows Media player V9 (Beta) during video playback using an external TV-OUT output from my Dell Inspiron 7500 Laptop. I have the latest versions of Windows XP professional, drivers and laptop BIOS.

My video output on the TV works fine and faithfully shows me a copy of my laptop display, until, that is I try to watch a video. The player itself shows on the TV screen but the actual video does not? If I play an MP3 file, which places visualisations on the media player, they do appear on the TV screen!

I have tried using another player but the same thing occurs, no video. I have even tried playing the video clip in internet explorer (which I think has its own built in player) but still no joy.

I recently updated my video driver, using a driver from the Dell web site, which does in fact support an external monitor and TV output. It seems to me to be setup correctly as far as I can tell.

So I am left with being able to play video on my laptop display but not through the TV output signal. I was wondering if there are any odd setings hidden away in the OS or media player that is blocking the video output. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards Farm

The latest beta build of Windows Media Player 9 v.2903. Are you using this build?

Have you uninstalled the beta version back to version 8 and tried it? It is only a beta version so if video plays on your TV using version 8 then I'd stick to this version.

Have you downloaded Real One V2 or Quicktime 6.02 and is it OK with any of these players? Remember with Real One after downloading and installing you need to use the check for updates tab to download a heap of CODECS that are not included in the download package (for some perculiar reason!)

If still no luck then you have a possible problem with the TV out function of you graphics card.

If you know the graphics card chipset you may want to try their website for drivers that may (or may not) work better than the Dell ones.
