    Hello,
I am having a problem in I believe is Windows Media Player 7.1. When I try to view a movie trailer or a video from a news site, my screen will go blank after about 10 seconds or so into the stream and I will have to reboot. I also noticed that my audio is terrible, not to clear and breaking up. At first I thought it may have been my monitor, NOPE, I tried 3 different monitors. Then I thought it might have been a problem with my graphics controller, NOPE, sent the motherboard back to Intel for repair or replacement and they sent it back and said there was no defects found. The only thing I have left to check is WMP, this will not happen with RealOnePlayer. All my sounds on my pc and all the CDs I play are very clear and sound top notch, so I don't think there is a problem with my sound system. I have uninstalled WMP 7.1 and downloaded and reinstalled it, all to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Someone told me that this could be a problem with a broadband connection.

    Here are my system specs...

    OptimumOnline Cable Internet Access.
    Windows 98SE
    Intel(R)82815 Graphics Controller.
    Pentium III @ 866 MHz
    256 MBs SDRAM

    Thanks all in advance,
    Ken:D

    Hey Ramona,

    How have you been????

I did read that article and don't know if it pertains to me, but I will look into it. I have heard that it could also be an directx problem. I am running DirectX 8.0 and wonder if installing version 8.1 would make a difference.

    Ken:rolleyes:

So glad to know I'm not alone! I have Comcast Cable and my computer is quite modern. However, when I try to get streaming media over my WMP 7.1, it never starts it. It just sits there like it's loading it, but nothing downloads. The RealPlayer (which I've always hated) works fine. I know it's not my connection, so must be WMP.

    Shadowhawk,

I have about given up on this baby. I have uninstalled, installed till i'm blue in the face. I even went back to version 6.4 and it was worse. I have OptimumOnline Internet Service and am real happy with the whole enchalada except this problem. Everything else works fine. I run my cable modem through the embedded lan on my intel motherboard, i ran it as a test through the USB hub and my connection was a little slower and WMP still sucked.

I found this tip for configuring WMP for broadband from the Optimum site, you can give it a try. It didn't work for me. I think that WMP just isn't happy with my system. QuickTime, RealOnePlayer and all my CDs run just fine.

If you find an answer, please let me know....
