Windows media player problems

My Windows Media Player doesn't play anything. It comes up like it is going to, but nothing happens. HELP!!!

I am not intimately familiar with Windows Media Player but some more details will certainly be helpful.

1. Do you see any error messages?
   If so, then please state the exact wording of those error messages.
   
2. What version of Windows Media Player are you using?
   
3. Is the media you're trying to view/play already locally stored (on your hard drive) or is it media you're streaming from the Internet?
   • Does the problem you described occur with all locally stored media files/Internet locations?
     If only certain files/locations, then please identify them.
4. What format is the media you're attempting to play?

Perhaps most importantly, can you recall any software downloads/installs/uninstalls or hardware changes you made immediately before you noticed your problem with Windows Media Player? If so, then please describe them.
