    Hi, my first post here!

I've had this problem for a while now and it's really starting to annoy me. For the most part I don't even use Windows Media Player 11 that much when it comes to videos. I use VLC media player to view DVDs and WMP for music mostly.

Now when some movies decide not to work with VLC I'll have to resort to viewing them with WMP. They work, BUT when I come out of the fullscreen mode the whole computer freezes. For a while I can hear the audio just fine, but the screen is frozen. Sometimes it goes away after few minutes... other times it doesn't.

Another thing with WMP is that when I watch videos on the Internet (using Firefox and WMP plugin) the video runs just fine, but when the file ends my computer crashes. It gives a BSOD and I think it says BAD_POOL_CALL.

Now I've tried to find solution to this problem and it seems that nobody has this but me. I've searched that BAD_POOL_CALL and many people report things with BAD_POOL_CALLER, but I'm pretty sure mine says "CALL ".

This really is a pain in the ass because the computer requires a lot of recovery time and reverts any changes made recently. It's a nightmare.

If someone could come up with a solution it would be great. I didn't always have this problem and chaces are that it's just some buggy software, but I really have no idea which or what it could be.

Can you set your PC up so it doesn't restart on error and post the Full STOP Code and error message?

Maybe I could take a picture of it... or is there a way to somehow copy the text easily? My camera just stopped working, and like I said the recovering is a real pain and I don't have time for it right now... maybe later.

I guess that's the only way though.

My apologies, I thought an Experienced user would know this.

Anyway, I can't give explicit instructions for Vista (I don't use it) but for XP.

Right click on My Computer and select properties.
Select the Advanced tab and click settings in Startup and Recovery
Untick Automatically restart in the System failure section.

I would imagine Vista instructions are similar, if not I'm sure a Vista user will be along soon to advise.

Yeah, that's not what I asked and actually IS something I already knew. :)

EDIT: Also, is there any checklist where I can see if I can be determined as "Experienced" user? If you suggest I know everything about computers then I wouldn't be here.

Just the stop code and error message is enough. No need for explicit details at the moment

Other than using your own comments to fill in that field, sorry none.

January, I've already apologised for my misplaced assumption, let's concentrate on your issue ok?

Post the 8 digit stop code starting with 0x and rather than thinking it's BAD_POOL_CALL please confirm it.

Ok, I got it crash again. This time I had to play quite a few videos to pull it through.

The STOP code was 0x0000008E and then (0xC0000005, 0xA37F7333, 0x998...)

I didn't catch the last two ones because for some reason... the computer turned down.

    Then when I tried to open the computer there was another BSOD: 0xC000032a {Fatal system error}

This time there was not any BAD_POOL_CALL... and again, I can't be sure, because I was concentrated on the STOP code and then suddenly the computer powered down. I really gotta take that picture if this ever happens again.

So, can you tell me anything with this?

Refering to MS KB 903251 My first port of call would be Malware removal.

I may be wrong but please follow the advice you are given and report back...

Please read this and post requested logs in the Malware and virus removal board.

    NOTES:
When posting the logs ensure word wrap is switched off (in notepad Uncheck Format->Word Wrap) as this makes them difficult to read.

Be aware that only Malware analysts will advise and they are often busy. Your post will be taken on a first come first served basis but it may take a while before you receive a reply.

Include a link to this thread if you can.

Still a good idea to ask the experts to get involved, your run of the mill AV/AS/FW may not cut it.

    Your choice though.
