First step would be to try uninstalling the player. When you try installing it again, watch for compatible versions
Did you install it from a prompt on the internet or from the Adobe website?

    They have an uninstaller:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
and it seems this is important for removing the old Macromedia player before installing the new Adobe player.
They have some notes about running the uninstaller, eg
so I might consider running it in safe mode.

I am low on ideas so I can only suggest some things for you to check.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913433
It should not relate to your problem now, but look for the files (Flash.ocx Swflash.ocx) and check if that security update is installed now and look at uninstalling it.

The other area I wondered about was updating the Windows Installer
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f&displaylang=en

Kernel32.dll is one of the main files of Windows. If it may be a problem within that file

    Any luck?

Maybe my last maybe :). Is "Download.exe" a legitimate file? No download providers seem to be supplying them "download.exe ", they should at least have a version description.

Should "Download.exe" be correct? If not, why?
