(Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in the forum!)

My backup computer, a vintage 2001 Dell Dimension 4100 with Windows ME, and Office 97 had been running just a bit slow lately. I make sure to run it and connect to the internet DSL daily for just a few minutes, and it was the interet connection that was getting slow.

Since I don't have any data files and it had been 'ages' since I had done any maintenance on it, I decided to format C and reload ME and Offine 97.

Using the 3-1/2" Win ME Startup diskette I had made, I formatted C and the installed Win-ME using the original Dell provided CD. Everything appeared to instalf fine, but...

Whereas the display used to be 1024 x 768 and 32-bit colors, and the internet connection was via Ethernet to my router, Windows ME now runs at 640 x 480 and 16-bit colors. When I access the display properties and go to the Settings tab, it displays the above information and NO OTHER CHOICES are listed on the pulldown menu!

For the internet, all it offers is a modem setup!

How can I restore the 1024x768 and 32-bit display?
How can I restore internet via the DSL connection?

Thank you for your time and help.

    Alex

You should be able to go Dell's web site and download the chipset/video/sound etc drivers...

I have Dell's original CD's (3) with the drivers, but these evidently do not have what is needed.

Then the problem is that I can't access the internet with that computer to download the drivers, and on top of that, I don't know which drivers I need.

I was under the impression that the setup diskette would take care of these setup issues since it was 'done' with this computer, but that was not the case.
