I just carried out the following two updates thorugh Microsoft Updator:

    Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)
    Root Certificates Update

However, now after every 20mins or so i get the following popup:

After carrying out the updates i was asked to validate my copy of WinXP, which i did successfully, but now the message pops up. I don't have a Windows Live ID (I don't think). Could it be spyware?
I can post a HJT log if needs be.

    Thanks

    Hi
If you use MSN Messenger or HotMail or any number of programs, Microsoft plants a cookie on your system.

    See here

    Hi
I'm guessing that the cookie was deleted off your system.

I would create a NET.Passport then log in at the pop up with it.

That should be the end of the pop up.

This is really not a "spyware issue" it is a MicroSoft issue.
