Using Windows 8 and Windows Live Mail I want to backup all the emails and folders to an external hard drive. I go to File and export and select the format as Windows Live Mail, it then backs it all up. But when I look at the backup on the external drive all the emails have strange names like 30233FC5-000032C.EML
How do I backup the mails with there proper names?
    Regards Paul

Interesting post from you Paul Shillam - As I run Windows Live Mail with Windows 7 I decided to do as you did and export my emails to my desktop in a new folder called "Exported Emails ". Easy, as you found, but when I opened the folder they were all there with the odd numbers as you found. No use at all really unless one is prepared to open each one until you find the one you want.

So, I then decided to import them back to Windows Live Mail and that is when I found it hard to find where they were, but in the end, they were in my 'Storage Folder | 'Imported Folder | each with their proper names. Why they are not named correctly when first exporting is beyond me to be honest.

I also have my emails backed up on my Kingston 64GB removable pen drive and checked there finding they had all the strange numbers too. Hopefully if I ever have to import them from there, they will be with their correct names also.

Sorry for the long and drawn out post, but as my signature say's still Learning each day. :)

    kind regards,

Thanks for that Tallin, trouble is when I want to Import an email i'm probably looking for a particular one maybe because I have accidently deleted it. I don't want to have to import all of them.
