I would appreciate help, I use Windows 7 IE9 and Live Mail, is there a procedure that when a new E-mail is received, a sound is generated, alerting me of a new post.

Go to Control Panel/Sounds/Mail notification and pick one. There should be one there already by default. Was in my Win 7 with WLM.

Thank you, carried out as suggested. Unable to see any reference on Mail notification or sounds related.

PeteC's screenshot should give you pointers...

Just to be clear, are you finding the sound applet in control panel? If so you may have to click on the sounds tab as indicated in the screenshot.

I have carried out steps suggested and selected a Windows sound, clicked apply. Unfortunately, E-mails received fail to trig off mail received warning sound.
    Regards.

It works on the 2 PC's that I have Win 7 on.

Reboot the PC. Take the sound out. Reboot the PC. Put the sound back in. Does it work now?

I am sorry to say, new steps carried out fails to emit sound on receipt of mail. To check further, I sent myself an E-mail to my computer. Installed is Windows 7 64bit, with IE 9 and Adobe Flash player latest copy 8.3. I certainly could use this facility with Windows XP.

You have not answered the key question in my last post ....
If they don't it is no wonder that the mail notification sound does not work either.

In my experince with Outlook on all day and checking for mail every 10 minutes there is NO mail notification sound when Outlook is first opened and there is new mail, but every subsequent batch of incoming mail triggers the sound.
Up to now you've spoken only of 7
This is not part of the equation AFAIK and BTW the latest version is 10.x

Windows7 uses Microsoft LiveMail and not Outlook as previous versions of Windows did. All Windows sounds do function properly ie Open, Close Windows and Recycle bin.

That is not correct - Windows 7 does not come with a default email client built in - you are free to choose whichever emailer you want to use - you chose Windows Live, I chose Office Outlook. Previous versions of Windows up to and including XP were supplied with Outlook Express, Vista with Windows Mail and Windows 7 with none.

Regardless the sound should work in either Live Mail or Outlook. I have never used Windows Mail, but searching further I cam across this ......

How to Have Windows Live Mail Play a Sound When New Messages Arrive

Check out the screen under section 3. and ensure that 'Play sound when new messages arrive' is checked.

Pete, that should be dufaulted that way. I use WLM on 2 different PC's with 2 different versions of Win 7 and they both played sound automatically. Of course somebody or something could have turned this off.

PeteC, I downloaded the help file and carried out instructions. I have now obtained the required steps that now gives me Window sounds, including the WLM E-mail received alert.
Many thanks for all your help.
