I autostart Windows Live Messenger 8.1 on my Windows Vista and IE 7. From Windows Live Messenger, I click on the mail to enter Hotmail from a new IE browser.

Today, when I booted up my notebook, Windows Live Messenger told me that MSN Hotmail will move to Windows Live Hotmail. I couldn't sign in hotmail as usual. What happened was: I entered my Hotmail username and password, then a new window popped up, and repeatedly creating new tabs. After a while, about 15 - 20 tabs were opened, it said log in failed.

I checked my Internet Options, msn.com, live.com and hotmail.com were not in the restricted zone. This notebook uses Norton Protection Centre.

I went to another computer running Windows Live Messenger 8.1, XP Pro SP2 and IE7. No problem, and as usual. This computer uses Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007.

Both computers use Windows Defender, and third party's firewall features disabled.

Firewall problem? Vista problem? What should I do?

I too have new laptop, Vista is new to me too. All I can tell you is I use hotmail and sign in through the same old hotmail sign in page, I use windows messanger to. I can't recall any changes that you mention though. Sorry.

I have solved the problem. Simply enter IE7, Tools, Internet Options, Security, Trusted Sites, Sites and then highlight the live.com and delete it.

Then close all browsers. And I clicked on the Windows Live Messenger, a new browser pops up for sign-in and Hotmail runs smoothly.
