For some reason, when I 'Right-Click' on any of my Desktop Icons, the Windows Installer kicks in, something which I find extremely annoying.

Would anyone happen to know what is causing this and how I can correct it?

    Many Thanks.

    Hi, BreezyCricket. :)

I did some Googling with various combinations of search terms but, unfortunately, I have not yet found an exact match for a fix to your particular problem. :(

If your issue just recently started occurring, perhaps you can recall what software and/or hardware changes you made to your computer immediately prior to the problem occurring. If you can provide this information for us we might be able to more quickly help you resolve your issue. If you tell us exactly what the Windows Installer window says, that might be helpful for us too.

If your issue just recently started occurring, perhaps the easiest fix is to use System Restore to revert your computer back to the state it was in before the problem started occurring and then restart your computer.

    To access System restore, click
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

I Googled "right-click" windows installer problem and got approximately 795,000 results (and some of those first-page results link to sites with "yellow" or "red" ratings according to McAfee's SiteAdvisor). :( Perhaps additional details provided by you will help us nail down a fix more efficiently.

Here are a couple links from the first page of the search results which might be helpful (though they don't specifically refer to right-clicking on desktop icons).

    Thank you for the reply.

I started the procedure so that I could get the exact 'pop-up' message, and instead of stopping it as I had been doing when I had this, I let it run and got a message which had something to do with Macromedia's Contribute 3, which I had installed a long time ago.

After then uninstalling it, I tried again and the error seems to have taken care of itself.

    Many thanks for your time.
