    Hello again,

I'm having trouble with my HP Scan unit. HP says I should have a Windows Installer Package so I could open scan.msi file, but, I can't find it. I can find the Windows Uninstaller Package. Does anyone know what HP is talking about & should I download Windows Installer Package from somewhere?

    Again, thanks

    elaine

Hi elaine. Try downloading Windows Installer 4.5 through the link that mickzer provided.

Woops, my bad. I thought you were running XP. In that case do you have Windows Vista Service Pack 2 installed?

Have you installed Windows Installer 4.5 yet to see if it fixed your issue?

Can you give us the exact wording about that information or point us to where you see it?

Yes, I tried but, 4.5 there is for 64 & 86 Vista or Vista w/service pack 1. I have 32 vista w/service pack 2. But, I tried anyway, but it continued to tell me that I did not need that for my system.
Also, I've totally removed and re-installed all my HP printer, scanner, everything & still can't open a scanned document. I could in times past, but don't know exactly what I might have done, updated, etc that might have caused this. I really don't think it is an HP issue.....I think it's Microsoft Document issue because it still says "Microsoft Document Imaging has stopped working ".

    Any more thoughts to try?

Oh Yes, this is the error code I get eventually......Error 1706 Windows Installer can't continue. This is the error I get when I try to scan a document.

But, when I try to open scanned documents that I had scanned in the past, the Microsoft Document Imaging has stopped working.

I don't know if this is one problem or 2 different problems. I've done everything HP suggested and still at square 1....

    Sure hope someone can help....

    Good Morning,

I have already done this per HP instructions...no help.

One thing I've noticed is that I now have the Windows Uninstaller, but do NOT have the Windows Installer! Ie, I can uninstall but not install....

    does this make sense?
