Hey, to start, full system spec:

Windows XP pro - P4 3.0GHz ht 800MHz bus, 512MB DDR (PC2100 266MHz), PC Chips M952 Motherboard (ht support, 800 FSB, APG 8X, Via PT800 NB, Via 8237 SB, suports up to DDR 400 RAM, up to 2GB, the rest is irrelevent. Inno3D Geforce FX5200 (128RAM) grpahics card (Latest drivers from NVIDAs site), AGP 8 etc, plus EIDE 120GB HDD + 16GB HDD. Uh.. I don't think you need any more detail, but if yoiu do just ask :)

    Now finally to the problem..
When I first power up my computer, it boots up fine. No problems what so ever. However when I load up outlook express or sometimes internet explorer, the computer will garrenteed become unresponcive, freeze the mouse, and auto restart. However after it has been rebooted (this includes rebooting my self straight after the first bootup in the login screen) it will not happen until the next time i turn the machine right off and back on again.

The error report says the drivers froze, though I am not sure about this. I've read up on this problem and some causes can be bad hardware or badly seated hardware. This isn't the case as far as I can see. I've checked all hardare is seated OKay, and the graphics card works fine except for its first boot lockup in OE/IE.

I will note however this did happen after upgrading my computer. The Motherboard and P4 are the only new components. I did do a clean install of windows and reinstalled all drivers, most of them are upto date off their respective web sites.

I also include a copy of the windows error report:

This isn't stoping me from using my computer, just slowing down the startup time (because I have to boot up a second time to get a stable system), and bugging us all! :p If you need anymore info please say and I will post it.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped.

    Thanks,

    -J

    Sorry for the late reply.

I uninsalled the graphics drivers and installed the ones that came with it. Same problems. Uninstalled those drivers, and reinstalled the latest from nvidia. Same problem still..

Other than buying a new graphics card im stuck, i hoped its not something wrong on the motherboard.. :/

I had a similiar problem with Nvidia drivers except the continuous loop with the same nv4_disp error never stopped unless I booted into Safe Mode.

I started trying different drivers...newest, then next newest, then third newest, etc., until I found one that worked. Fortunately, it was the third one I tried or I'd probably still be at it.

Every Nvidia driver ever written can be download from here if you want to try that route.

I'm glad to see Miz's suggestion; I haven't a clue what else to try. Sounds like some chip just needs to warm up?

    Just something interesting to add..

When it did its restart today, it gave three long beep at bios startup, failed to boot, and restarted again normally. I looked up what 3 beeps means for AMI bios, and its apparently something to do with the main memory (RAM). So i've put the ram in the other slot. So far no restarts, but I will find out tommorow when I first turn it on.

And I haven't tried those other drivers yet, will get around in the next couple of days or so.
