Seven plus years ago when I got my new w95, the local builder used a Zip drive to move some large business programs onto this computer. Unfortunately he did NOT remove the program when he pulled out the PCI card. This always left a line (with yellow exclamation mark) for this entry in device manager. So the other day I decided to "remove" it. Now every time I bootup the computer, I get the "Found New device - PCI card" and windows wants to install it. Naturally the card is NOT there and I have no way to re-install it. I choose cancel and windows continues on to desktop. Calling the builder is not a option, his current address is "I'm in Heaven.com "

Are you finding a PCI bridge under "Other Devices" with a yellow exclamation point?

    Hi PLansdowne

That was the exact position. "Other Devices" and the associated Zip line below it dissappeared after I took the remove option. This last available PCI slot has never been used, other than temporary home for the PCI/Zip card. I installed a new NIC card in this location, replacing a old ISA NIC. After card successful installed, I then removed the PCI/zip out of device manager. Since then, every time I bootup the computer I get the "Found new Device" halt.

    Hi PLansdowne

Thank you very much, that looks like a plan. I do have one question... When I let windows look for the device, is it looking for what was there, (PCIzip) which was removed incorrectly (?) or will it find what is there now (PCInic). Both cards used / use the same location. Or is that not a concern in this situation, since it is correcting a flaw in w95. Will tackle this tomorrow, let you know how it turns out.
