I've reinstalled a couple of times and I still get a message that says: "Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your Windows XP cd-rom." I insert the CD, the Cd-rom runs for a while and then if I take it out (even after a day) I get the message. Could my HDD be bad?

I'd suspect the cd first. Have you tried cleaning it?
