I have tried everything to get my Windows Explorer to open up in the details view. No matter what I try it always opens up in the icon view. Also, I like to use the /e, /d function so that when Windows Explorer opens up it will start in the d drive and will be expanded. I get an error message saying the the /d drive does not exist or is not a directory. All I can figure is that Windows Explorer is corrupted. Any help much appreciated.

    Bart ...

You didn't say whether you're using the XP default view (Luna) or the Windows Classic view. In Classic, at least, when Windows Explorer is open, select the Details view for any folder, then open Tools > Folder Options > View and click on the "Apply to All Folders" button. You should be home free on the Details view.

So far as opening Explorer in the D: drive, Explorer isn't corrupted ... you just haven't given it the correct information. :) The syntax in your shortcut's Target window should be %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, d:\.

Jim I want to thank you for the quick response. I have to tell you that I tried all those things and they did not work. After reading your response to both problems I said to myself, "Self, give it one more try ". I don't know what it is but your works made it work. Everything working fine now. :)

    similar question relating to WE

Noticed the above thread/replies and as it happened that was specifically my question on where to default too when WE opens...

Sure I can edit my target accordingly, but what does each one, and where can I find a listing of all the various "swiches" i.e. /e etc.?

back in the old days one could suffix a typing command with /? and get them... is there a similar thing with windows xp?

Too much is hidden in XP to my liking.... does too much behind the scenes without telling YOU (the owner in my mind, on your own standalone machine) what the H its doing... drives me nuts.
