In Windows Explorer I used to be able to right click on jpg and bmp files, resulting in a popup window showing a thumbnail of the picture. The same was true for wav files playing the sound. All of a sudden this feature does not work any more. I do not know which program showed this feature. Can anyone help me to bring this helpful tool back?

axel--I think what you are talking about are actually previews (individual small images) rather than Thumbnails.
    See here
    http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/tune-301.shtml
But if you want Thumbnails for an entire folder, then try this
In Windows Explorer, right click on any closed folder
    Select Properties
Click the "Enable Thumbnail View" box then hit OK
Open the folder in Windows Explorer, click on the View menu and choose "Thumbnails"
You should see the thumbnail pictures
To view the files in a different way, select another option from the View menu .

You are close Welshjim, but this is not what I meant. The thumbnail - or lets call it a preview - appeared when rightclicking on the file. With it came information about that file and a file-converter which was very useful. The preview appeared where it now just shows "open" in the popup window.

Axel, Pleased to help with PicaView - it would be sorely missed here too.
    One of my favorites.
