Windows Explorer pops up when computer idle

A new Windows XP computer, the screen saver will be on for awhile then suddenly Windows Explorer pops up showing the contents of the external zip drive. External USB Iomega 100MB zip drive.

The zip drive works OK. When you put a disk in Windows Explorer pops up showing the contents of the disk. That's OK.

But why would Windows Explorer pop up when the computer is idle, no one is doing anything, the screen saver is on, the compuer just got bored of doing nothing and decided to pop up Windows Explorer.

Norton anti-virus anti-spyware updated and scanned computer no problems.

 

I'm not positive that Diskmon will work on a USB drive like the one that is giving you problems. OTOH, it's a free utility so nothing lost if it won't.

I'd give it a try and then check for activity happening just before WE pops up.

Once you have that information, you should be able to track down the exact cause.
