Upon booting up last night I received a popup with the message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I'm using XP Pro and IE 6.0. Additional info shows the file shlwapi.dll. When I click on "close ", it comes right back up, and remains on top of everything else. Everything else works, but can't get rid of the popup. I use NAV, and current scan with updates reveals no virus. I found a MS recommend relating to Word 2000, suggesting I install SR-1 for Word 2000. That I did, but no change. Anyone have any info?

Everything I found shows that this .dll is part of the Windows UI. I found several programs that claim to fix it by using google to search for that .dll. I would recommend applying any updates to IE from windowsupdate.microsoft.com, and if that doesn't work, try some of the hints provided by google.

Well, Bursley, at your suggestion, I ran Windows Update, and found a recommended update relating to "Error Reporting ", so I gave it a shot, then rebooted. So far, the problem seems to be SOLVED! Thanks for your suggestion....I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
