windows explorer hangs when opened

hi- im running win 98 (orig) and all of a sudden when i try to open explorer to get to my documents folder it opens but when i click on my documents i get the hourglass with arroe cursor and it just hangs...any ideas why its doing this suddenly?

Sounds like a registry problem.
Start Button/Shutdown/Restart in MS-DOS
and type

scanreg /fix

... wait a while, do not interrupt.
