In previous versions of Windows, when using Windows Explorer to view files and folders, clicking on a folder once in the left pane would select that folder, and display its contents in the file pane at the right. In Windows XP, clicking on the folder in the left pane does the same thing, however it also expands that folder's contents in the left pane(showing all subdirectories and compressed archives inside it), as well as contracting any previous folder that was expanded in the left pane. This is very annoying! I constantly find myself scrolling needlessly up and down as Explorer resizes the view of the folder pane from all those expansions and contractions of folders. Is it possible to force this to behave like previous versions of Windows where clicking a folder in the left pane will only select it(not expand it), and show its contents in the file pane at the right?

    Hi Revolver - welcome :)

Think you will find your answer in:

Tools > Folder Options > Files and Folders > Display simple folder view
