A user received this error when attempting to turn on a C743 Zoom Digital Camera (Kodak Easyshare model) to run the piztures wizard for downloading off the device.

Found this, which says a similar issue is caused by the Win2k Resource kit found on 2003 and XP machines, but the Offset ID doesn't match.

The modname (which google results seem to indicate change the offset) is "comctl32.dll" and MS seems to have a hotfix, but that's only for instances where a program calls up both versions 5 and 6 of comctl32.

How do I determine that's the origin of the problem? I don't want to run a hotfix without being 100% that it's the right one...

I attempted to download and install the listed hotfix, but Windows would not install it. Turns out that the service pack is newer than that update and there's no need to install that hotfix.

Except, of course, when there is a need. Back to google, I guess.

Users make me angry. They kept playing with the camera after I said I was going off to research the problem. Unable to tell me HOW or WHAT they did, the pictures on the camera can now be seen in Explorer, by opening the camera in My Computer.

However, we still can not download from the camera.

I would delete the USB controllers from Device Manager, then reboot & let Windows reinstall the drivers.

Next I would check for a USB driver from the manufacturer.

Thanks, so much! That did just the trick.

What was I missing, that you saw, that indicated it was the USB controllers? I'm having a teachable moment, it seems.
