Try repairing Windows with your XP disc or recovery disc, whichever you have. 6.0.2600 is a version number for Internet Explorer 6.

I have been having the same problem that FHER has had, and as for the solution, do I simply put in the CD and it will actually detect the problem and fix itself? Or do I have to do something besides? Thanks in advance.

xatupdate is not an XP file. Search for it and see if its properties or location give any clue about what program it belongs to.

Installing SP1 fixes this problem for many people.

Okay, for me the problem still persists. I'm sure I have downloaded and installed the SP1, assuming that it comes with the 'Windows updates' that I am occassionally notified about.

To be more specific in my problem, I created a folder awhile back which contained several pictures that I had scanned onto my computer. Later, when I went back to access the folder, Windows Explorer would display an error message (along with the whole 'Do you want to send a report', or something like that). But occassionally, I can access the pictures with no problems, and other folders with different scanned pictures in them work fine. Moving the picture files to another newly-created folder also creates the same Windows Explorer crash problem, but again, occassionally the folder can be accessed.

Just now, I tried copying the original picture files into another folder, and came up with an error. HEre's some of the details, if it will help determine what's wrong:

    AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: ntdll.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106 Offset: 00002109

Anyone know what is going on??

and just now, having tried to access another one of my folders with scanned pictures inside of them, an error message showed up which wasn't like the one above. This one was something you'd probably expect to see more.

    explorer.exe - Application Error

"The instruction at "Ox77f52a84" referenced memory at "Ox002e006b ". The memory could not be "written ". Click on OK to terminate the program. "

Unlike the previous error message (which allowed you to send an error report of the incident), this error message only allowed you to click on OK. It then terminated Windows Explorer.
