I'm new to Vista and was playing around with my Security settings (just checking out what I had) and saw that SpyBot was listed as NOT ON! Windows Defender was listed as ON. I've run SpyBot a few times since I downloaded it and it seems to be working ok, but am wondering why it isn't always on. I see options to turn it on at the bottom of the window, but they are grayed out. So are the options for Windows Defender. What's up with that? Do I even need SpyBot?

    :)

I was poking around on the Spybot forums and couldn't find any solid answer to this. You may want to start a thread there yourself.

I prefer Spybot over WD tho. WD has never impressed me much since its original conception as Giant Anti-Spyware. And MS snagging it didn't much help.

I hated WD constant popups. I turned it off.

As for grayed out options in any security tool, it's always a good idea to run HijackThis, and post its log at "Security" forum.
