Windows Defender Beta2 boot issue

Just got the new HelpWithWindows newsletter. After checking it out, I downloaded and installed Microsoft's latest spyware tool, Windows Defender Beta2. What garbage! When I rebooted my PC it just sat there after checking my Ram on the bootup. I thought my PC had died. I actually reseated the memory, reset the BIOS and tried to reboot and it just sat there. Turns out the boot took about 10 minutes! I just wasn't patient enough. However, once I realized this, I tried rebooting again. Every reboot was over 10 minutes! Once I removed this software, my system returned to normal. Now you have to realize, my PC
usually boots from power-on to desktop in 30 seconds. This was totally unacceptable. I couldn't even boot from a floppy! The PC just sat there after checking memory! There was absolutely no indication as to what was going on. I really thought I had a hardware problem! THANK YOU MICROSOFT!

 

I also installed Windows Defender Beta 2 and it really does seem to be a lesser being than its predecessor.

1 - I have no idea if it is actually running or not (I don't think it is since it did not run an automatic scan this morning)

2 - History file is empty despite having run it a number of times manually

3 - There is no way that I can see to turn protection on

Question - How do I tell Microsoft their new baby is a bit sick ?
