FWIW installed the update today on desktop, laptop and net book without any issues - smooth as silk :)

Agree. Version 1703. OS Build 15063.13. What do you think of the Windows Defender interface Pete?

Can't say that I've looked at it yet - use Vipre on the desktop so defender is disabled.
Installed it first on the laptop which I can afford to trash and recover (used for travel/lectures only), then on the netbook and finally on the desktop. AFAIK nothing broke!

Didn't happen to me. This was the first thing I checked. Do these guys who write these stories own or use a "smart" phone? The info that is disclosed with cell phones can be mind-boggling!
I've not had any problems with any of the upgrades or updates on any of our comps with W10. The only problem I've experienced is the odd hanging during downloading the cumulative updates. I've put it down to the time of day and internet traffic.

Totally unnecessary. I did nothing extra with my comps and the update installed 100% OK. There is a lot going on with the install of this update internally - so be prepared for at least a half hour of install time.
My recommendation is DON'T use the comp while the install is taking place. Let it do it's thing - go have a coffee/tea break.

As I already said "Better to be safe than sorry", it's for each individual to take a stand. I err on side of caution & save an image of the hard disk before doing such updates. In fact I try to image my system partition before installing monthly updates. You never know.

FWIW I image my system partition on a weekly basis and back up that image - also image prior to any major update.although the current image will be < 1 week old.
