    Hello,

One fine day I switched on my computer and instead of the normal Logon window with the icons for users poppped up the classic windows logon screen. I tried sever fixes for similar problems on this web site but with no success. I tried also to tweak registry manually by following instructions
    found in other threads
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    Value Name: LogonType
    Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = Classic Mode, 1 = Welcome Screen)

I also tried VBS scripts found on kelley's corner, but still getting this ugly classic logon window, any help please.

did u try any of the proper fixes before u threw the hacks at it? ;) eg - users control panel and 'change the way users logon' option. display props/appearance and see that xp style is selected and not classic?

if this change was recent and uninvited, u should have the sysrestore option as well.

note that domain logons require old school logon. u can't use 'home' page w/ this logon

Yes I did go to user account clicked "change thje view users lolg on or off and yes ther I found Use welcome screen and use fast user switching with their respective box ticked. I did not understand you last line "note that domain logons require old school logon. u can't use 'home' page w/ this logon ". This problem just poped up out of the blues I did not make any changes recently at least that I know (windows update are automatic)

if u'r on a domain, u must use the classic logon. it's the only way it works. if u'r not on a domain, then it's not the issue.

rclik mycomputer/props/computer_name tab and see the 'change' button. u should be on 'workgroup' and not domain.

Do you have this key in your registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon

    DisableCAD

If yes, delete DisableCAD. If no, the only other idea I have is to use System Restore & use a restore point prior to this happening.

Also, you'll need the following services, because they are used by the Fast User Switching feature:

    • Terminal Services
    • Fast User Switching Compatibility
