    Greetings!

I put together a system around an AK31 and Duron 850 a few months ago with XP home as the o/s. My "packet-writing "/CD authoring software is Roxio Easy CD Deluxe with the XP updates. I could copy/paste to a CD-R w/out difficulty or incident, or, for example, run a backup from Quicken to the CD.

It may be coincidental (I did not log WHEN this began occurring) but about a month ago I dropped in an AK35GTR, second drive in Raid 1, and XP1800. Now when I go to copy to a CD, instead of the file copying immediately I am directed to the "Windows CD Wizard" and the note "you have files waiting to be written to CD." I can no longer back up directly from Quicken, but must backup to my HD and copy that folder to the CD.

Is there a way to disable the "CD Wizard," perhaps a spell I could cast, or a Balrog to put in its way...

FYI, I run a Yamaha CDRW with an 8mb buffer, so I don't feel I need extra help in avoiding a buffer underrun.

I would appreciate any suggestions and hope there is a SIMPLE solution. HA!

If you are using Roxio for packet writing (not a native XP function), you could simply turn off the XP writing software.
Run--> services.msc and right-click IMAPI. Disable and apply. If you are using Home Edition, I think you can do this through the Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services.

Thanks for the suggesting. Tried it but to no avail; also played with drive property settings from "my computer" but no luck. So I'll ask again...anyone else out there copying directly to their CD and avoiding the "Windows CD Wizard" with its "you have files waiting to be written to CD" message; and, if so, do you know HOW to make XP behave that way?

    Thanks...

Have you tried removing and re-installing the Roxio?

If I recall, if roxio is installed and functioning properly then it takes preference over the built in XP writing module (which was licensed from roxio to M$...)

Remember to completely shutdown the computer after removing the software then reboot to start fresh install - Direct CD is funky about this some times.

You can get rid of the "files waiting to be written" message by opening your CD drive (My Computer) and deleting all the shortcuts there (which are shortcuts to the files waiting to be written).

To disable XP's CD burning software, in My Computer, right click on your CD burner, click on Properties, click on the Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive." Hit OK and you're done.
