Have duel boot system, when I choose XP the screen goes black as soon as windows loads. The only thing that works is to enable VGA in safe mode.

This gives me a very low resolution but when I try to increase res the screen goes black and I have to reboot in safe mode again. I did manage to go back to a working restore point and this solved the problem for a few days but the screen developed a very red hue and I was back to square one again at the next bootup. (I have since lost my restore point)

Everything is fine in Win 98 so so it must be the XP OS. (Another monitor gives same problems)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried to reinstall XP over the top but was not successful, perhaps this is not possible with dual boot.

jaycee - Welcome to the Board :)

Sounds like you need to reinstall/update the XP drivers for your graphics card - they are not the same as those for 98.

    It worked!

    Many thanks PeteC
Reinstalled driver and is now working just fine. Wish I understood what caused it in the first place.

Glad to hear the drivers fixed the problem - probably caused by some file corruption. This happens from time to time, but maybe a good idea to check out the hard drive either with chkdsk with the /r switch or the disk diagnostics from the manufacturer's web site.

If this is a one off I would not lose too much sleep over it :)
