    When installing Windows 98SE from the install disk the first option to appear is as follows:

    Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Menu
    1. Start Windows 98 from CD-ROM
    2. Start computer with CD-ROM support

    If reinstalling Windows on a system that already has Windows 98 installed, which option do you use?

    The reinstall is to repair corrupt or missing system files. This is not a complete clean installation. This is a repair install only. Thanks.

    You might need files from the CD.
    I take it you also have the W98 CD?

    If you are doing a repair install just watch CAREFULLY that the install goes to the EXISTING Windows folder which is normally C:\Windows.

    Booting from the Floppy does not usually present a problem. But it still bears watching.

    Yes, I do have the original Win98SE CD. The system does boot without the startup floppy. I am still curious what is the difference between option #1 and option #2 from the startup menu. Thanks.

    ???

    I just booted to the 98SE Startup disk that I have ( after I found the original ) and it shows the choices as being;

    #1-Start computer with CRDOM support.
    #2-Start Computer without CDROM support.
    #2- View the Help file.

    They mean exactly what they say.

    #1- The CDROM drivers are loaded and you would be able to use the CD and just type [CDROM Letter ):\Setup and Windows install would begin. ie; D:\setup.

    #2- The CDROM drivers would not be loaded and you would not be able to use the CD.
