I can not install windows 98 on the computer. It had 98 installed, but keeps hanging when trying to install. It sometimes will go to 70% but most of the time it is only 20 to 30%.
    can anyone help?.

Harry, Which is right ? (or what is the exact situation ?)

You have a PC with Win98 on it and for some reason you want to reinstall Win98 ?

    OR

you removed Win98 and now want to install a fresh version ?

Have you got a Win98 Install CD ?
Do you have a bootable Win98 floppy that loads CDROM drivers ?
    regards

I think the problem is reading the cab files off of the CD. You should have a file named C:\setuplog.txt, this will tell you where it is hanging. You are looking for multiple attempts to extract a file.
Examine the CD for dust or scratches, a flaky CD drive can do this. If you can, copy all the files in the Win98 folder off of the CD onto the hard drive and run setup from there. At the prompt, if the CD is E:\ type this at the prompt:

    md c:\win98
    copy e:\win98\*.* c:\win98

    When done:

    c:\win98\setup.exe
