I have recently re-formatted a friends hard drive and reinstalled windows 98. The whole thing seemed to go without a hitch until the last restart and then it gets as far as seeing the start button and time in the task bar and then freezes. Any suggestions please?

    Don,

Welcome to the board! Can you start in Safe mode? If so, I would check for any conflicts in Device manager. Have you added anything, hardware/software, since the reload? If so, make sure everything is seated tight. If you haven't added too many programs yet, you may want to start the proocess over. I know, no fun. Sometimes, it just doesn't take the first time.

Have you installed the motherboard drivers? These should be installed before anything else.
