Have big problem first of all have a PB think model number is 82000. This computer was used up until a few months ago and I decided to give it to a friend who is lonely and wanted something to play card games and maybe do E mails on this is a senior so she didn`t need much thought this would be okay. The hard drive is 8gb. Anyway I had to delete and format the hard drive which maybe I shouldn`t have done with a startup disk but did made new partition than I used the recovery CD to do an install first thing I did though was do a complete check that everything was working got every test passed than proceeded for it to load the windows which is win 98 of course drive was formatted again when program started it goes through the whole procedure fine until we get to the last 8 minutes think it is doing a configuration or something than computer has to restart now this is the problem just at that time a message comes up and I get this blue screen popping up with 0028:C0008917lNVXD 0028:C1464644 lnvxd THAN i SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER RE START GO INTO SAFEMODE AS IT WAS SHUT DOWN BY FORCE THAN GO BACK OUT AND TRY TO GET BACK IN THE MESSAGE COMES UP ABOUT WINDOWS PROTECTION TO RESTART COMPUTER.
I have gone into windows printed out what they said to do , did everything on the list but still haven`t solved the problem. no drivers are loaded no hardware but I followed the steps faithfully and am still not getting into the windows. I am about ready to throw the computer .
I am wondering if I should do a complete zero format of the hard drive but the recovery disk said all was okay. It has added memory but that is recognized it also has a network adapter which has been added since the computer was bought think that is all. I think I have tried it without the adapter in it oh yes a CD Rom wbut that also was picked up.
The DOS is terrible on this computer so am not sure how to change anything there so it is still at default.
    Any suggestions. Thanks

Good idea to try what you've tried, but have some questions:
Hope this means you deleted all partitions on the hard drive and made new ones and formatted them, in that order. doing that with a startup disk is fine, albeit rather slow. Also assume that the recovery CD put an image of win98 on the drive, including proprietary drivers for the hardware.

But if that's the case why would
be necessary? What exactly did the recovery CD do? and
what and where? on the same or different computer?
    Where?

Best I can tell, start over and follow my assumptions above and post questions as you go, if you need to. Or better, just boot with the recovery CD and allow it to do it's thing, see what happens, and post results here.

Do you still have the printed manual that came with the computer?

Do you know how to start the BIOS Setup Program?

Thanks for answer but didn`t notice I had one until I came into forum to tell you I had it fixed and tell the reason.
All was the original computer that the restore disk came with but that wasn`t the problem the problem was a bad memory stick. Once I removed that everything worked like magic.
I didn`t get any beeps so would never have thought of that was just removing everything from the computer and re doing it when I discovered the memory stick removed it and than it all worked.
Thanks for taking the time to answer me. I find your forum is a great help.
