My Compaq Presario (AMD K6 380MHZ, Win98, ) seems to be going south fast.

Problems include difficult shut-down sequence, programs which don't run when icon is clicked on, inability to adjust screen resolution from 640X480 256 colours, seemingly in a cascade of problems one after the other.

I have run Spybot S&D, Adaware, HijackThis and HouseCall AV with no problems shown.

I guess I can try to restore an earlier version of registry with scanreg /restore, and as a last resort go back to factory setting with Compaq factory restore disk, but would appreciate any other (less drastic) suggestions.

    thanks

Have you tried to repair Internet Explorer, I had some of the same problems, also running Win98,

Go to control panel, add/remove, select IE, a box should pop up, click repair, then when it's finished reboot. Nothing to loose by trying this.

    Good luck.....
