Windows 8.1 goes into a "controlled" compute bound loop. Task manager displays 30% CPU utilization with .1MBS disk activity. The implicated task is SYSTEM using 29.9%. This is spread across all 4 cores of my ASUS CM6340 Core I5 10 GBRAM system. I can duplicate this most of the time (but not always) simply by initiating Microsoft Solitaire free cell. This problem only occurs from the "METRO" interface. If I read NEWS or play MUSIC from the METRO interface no problem. This problem only disappears on reboot.
The device manager shows no alerts or problems.
    Advice would be appreciated.
(Hope my system specs show up)

Have just discovered that invoking the Micosoft Solitaire "Umbrella" program causes this problem without actually getting to the APP level.
Have also had some Youtube videos cause the problem when initiated through the desktop interface and IE 11. ???

Have also just found that using GOOGLE through IE-11 and searching for compute loops in 8.1 brings up a site that when clicked causes the problem.

    STDRIVERx64.sys

    I have resolved the problem.
I got advise on using XPERF (performance data gatherer) and using WPA
windows performance analyzer. An active member on Microsoft TechNet
solved the problem by using WPA to narrow down the cause.

It was a driver STDRIVERX64.SYS that is part of an audio recording package
Sound Tap Audio recorder from NCH software.
