Thank you for such a prompt reply. At the moment it is still the same. But I have an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5525. I have managed to email the scan from it. I will keep working on it as the email window is still grayed out.

Greyed out in which program Win fax and scan or HP software? Is the email account you are trying to use set as your default email? I tried to look at your My System but all I see is 32-bit. If your are having trouble finding your system specs try Speccy it's free https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

Hi IJ, Thank you for your reply. Yes I tried the fax & scan as advised. No luck there I'm afraid. I have just spent ages typing in computer details, but when trying to submit it gave a blank form again. I have Windows 8.1 64bit. I put windows word 2003 on and everything slowed up dramatically. So uninstalled it and all goes fine. Please be thoughtful with me I was born in 1939, but I enjoy the challenge. Thanks for any information that you may be able to help with. Mick Aves

Hi mickster, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :)
I have a HP All in one Printer and the scan (HP) allows me to scan and Email from the scan to recipient.
Do you have an All in one Printer with the same ability?
As lj50 has stated, take the time to fill in your "System Details" as it helps us to sort out what problems you have. Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page after entering your details and SAVE before you exit. ;)
To use W8.1 Fax and Scan - you need to have a Fax Modem (inbuilt or card) in your comp. Neil.

Click on Edit System Specs enter your System Specs click on Save. Click on Edit Options scroll down to Thread Display Options. Under The heading Show System Specifications in the little box with No in it, change the No to a Yes then scroll down to the bottom and click on Save.

mickster, Have a look in > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off > Expand Print and Document Features > is Windows Fax and Scan checked? Neil.

Hi Neil, Yes Windows Fax & Scan is Checked. LPR Port Monitor is not. LPD Print service is not, Internet Printing Client is not.
    Thanks mickster

Is it shown in Device Manager? You may have to > View > show hidden devices. Neil.

What are you doing in WINDOWS FAX AND SCAN? You do this from the printer and in your 3rd post you said you did scan and send it by e-mail. Or are you trying to FAX something you scanned?

mickster, If you have followed the link that lj50 Posted > you installed Silverlight? > you ran the video giving instructions? > what did the program inform you in regards to having a Fax Modem in your computer?

If you have a built in fax modem or an installed card - there is no reason why it shouldn't work when following the MS instructions on the link. Neil.
