This update has attempted to install numerous times over the past 5-6 months, and has failed each time. I see that there is not much in it; but why won't it install? I have run the Windows readiness tool and it comes up with a Hot Fix installation that runs, runs showing no progress after 45 mins. What should I do know. I run both SAS as well as AVG Anti virus Software.Any help?

Hi Htipper. When Windows 7 SP1 doesn't install do you get an error message?

Try downloading Windows 7 SP1 from here. When you download it save it to your desktop and install it manually. See if that works.

If it still fails to install try closing all background programs that are running in the system tray including AVG and SAS since they could interfere with the installation.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Find error codes associated with the failing update in the WindowsUpdate.log.

Type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in your Start Menu's search box & press Enter

    Post relevant info here.

For more information see: How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

You could try to upgrade after switching off AVG & disconnecting from the net [pull the LAN cable].

I'm going to try the clean boot and see if updates install. I noticed when looking @ update history that I have several earlier failed updates. Will this current SP1 update install if earlier updates have failed?

I submitted the forms but I don't think it ran the scan at the end? I guess I should hear tomorrow.

So did you perform the troubleshooting steps in my previous post?

Did you try running the fix that MrBill posted?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you said you submitted the forms.

I had several Tech people respond. I inadvertently submitted it several times. I did all they suggested. Readiness Tool, Selective start-up mode, the "Fix It" tool the "Trouble Shooter" In normal as well as aggressive mode. The only one that didn't run was "System File Checker" Even though I am logged in as Administrator it won't accept me as the Administrator so the "System File Checker" did not run.
I might note all of my other Windows Updates run without incident? I am awaiting response as to what's next.

You might be logged in as an Administrator, but you have to RIGHT click on some things and choose Run as Administrator.

To run the System File Checker click Start< All Programs< Accessories< Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator. After the Command Prompt window opens type sfc /scannow to start the process.
