    SP1 is available now from Technet or MSDN if you are lucky enough to have a subscription to either of those services and generally on February 22.

    For a Service Pack which is flagged as being only a roll up of the updates issued so far this message on the install screen is puzzling .....
    On an unpatched installation - may be, but I am currently installing on my fully patched netbook and it is still running after 1 hour :eek:

    What gives here ??

    What's included in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/whats-included-in-windows-7-service-pack-1-sp1

    Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an important update that includes previously released security, performance, and stability updates for Windows 7. SP1 also includes new improvements to features and services in Windows 7, such as improved reliability when connecting to HDMI audio devices, printing using the XPS Viewer, and restoring previous folders in Windows Explorer after restarting.

    Even so 1 1/2 hrs to install on a netbook (successfully :)) seems excessive. Now installing on an i5 laptop - looks to be somewhat quicker, but time will tell :)

    Keep us peasants posted if anything goes fubar Pete. I may delay installing for a week or so after general release to avoid any unforeseen issues.

    Let me guess: Intel Atom processor? If so, I'm not surprised. I'm getting reports of 30-45 minutes on 'normal' machines.

    But if the machine is upto date, shouldn't it skip already "updated" updates ? That should decrease the time significantally unless its installing ALL the things without checking first.

    @Arie
    Correct :)
    Yea, that's about what it took on my i5 laptop and i7 desktop.

    @rsinfo
    That's my feeling too.

    Yea, I've played with a netbook with an Atom. Result is that I will never buy one! Those things are about as slow as a Pentium 1!

    Yep, but these are meant only for light internet access & to check your mail on the go with 4-5 hours of battery life.

    My netbook is used purely for photographic trips abroad to transfer images from my CF cards to the hard drive and 2 external 2.5 in drives (double backup :)) and to pick up webmail. Runs Photoshop well enough for image evaluation.

    Small. light and perfect for the job especially when also carrying a 22lb photorucksack full of gear & suitcase!.

    One hour & 10 minutes on my T7200 Core2Duo (laptop).

    I'm downloading WAIK for Windows 7 & see if I can make a 'slipstream' version.

    Tomorrow should see the general release of SP1.

    but how has the download affected the performance and operation of your computers, I have been waiting to download this ever since it showed up it in my windows update as a file to be downloaded listed as important but not critical , so I wanted to see if it had caused any problems for anybody, before I download it .

    thank you in advance for any reply's.

    No issues have been reported to the best of my knowledge - you should see no change in operation or performance.

    You will see from my posts here that I have installed it on a desktop, laptop and net book all without subsequent issues.

    Which one is the SP download at MSDN? All I see are multi-language R2 downloads.

    I have noticed no differece in performance as yet. I used Windows Update and the complete time from start of download to login after reboot was ~ 21 minutes. Prior to the SP1 I was up-to-date with one hotfix installed. The hotfix which I installed last month solved the re-awkening of my monitoe from a power-save mode. That hotfix is included in SP1.

    I will be performing the cleanup utility tomorrow after I take an image backup of my system drive.
