The last few times when i have done an update when i next come to turn on my laptop my desktop doesn't load. i then try and restart my laptop except then it won't let me log on and says user profile cannot be loaded.

Last two times have been when updated itunes/quicktime and the first was a standard windows update. Somethings don't seem to cause a problem ie when installed new internet security.

Ran trojan remover and advanced windows care yet don't seem to find any problems. When system restore back a few days before problem everything is fine. Which is why i think updating is a problem i just don't know why there being a problem in the first place.

Running Windows 7 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1545
    Intel Celeron CPU 200 @ 2.2Ghz, 2194 MHz 1 core

I should have thought of that, thank you for pointing that out. Give this a go and see what happens.

To clear the update cache you first need to turn it off.

    1. Click on Start and type services.msc into the search box, then click on servies as it appears above. Scroll down the list to Windows Update, right click on it and select stop.

    2. Type this into the search box %windir%\SoftwareDistribution click on software distribution above and delete the entire contents of the Download folder.

    3. Go back and turn the WU service back on.

The instruction for deleting and creating a new user profile needs to be followed to the letter, if the files are not there this may also be contributing to the problem. Follow the rest of the instruction and new files should be created. Make sure you followed instruction 4 & 5 correctly or the files will be hidden from view.

Thank you. Creating a new profile seems to have worked.
