After Windows Update installed SP1 on Windows 7 Pro x64, 3 computers experienced "blue screen" crashes. Two of them can't boot up without WIndows 7 DVD. One restored back.

One of them on notebook with Core 2 Duo 3 GB RAM. One on MacBookPro8,1 running on VMware Fusion 3.1.2, and one on MacBookPro8,1 Early 2011 running on Parallels 6.

    Is there any insight?

Follow these instructions to post a Dump Data Log.

If you do not have a dump, ensure that your machine is configured to write out a dump by following the directions from microsoft

After download and installation exactly the steps , the cdb.exe gives a flash of a text box and off it goes. I found the dump file but unable to analyze it.

I download it again and get stuck exactly in the same way.

    Hi Arie,

Big trouble! The pure Windows 7 machine went through a few blue screens and automatical recovery action without a glue to restore it.

The problem has developed to unable to enter control panel. Whenever I wanted to restore from a restore point, or even attempt to get into programs and features, the notebook will get another blue screen.

I tried to restore it from Acronis images but unsuccessful, just another blue screen. The problem is there is about a week of work without backup.

In this situation, is it appropriate to use Windows 7 DVD to do a repair? Will every programs and their data wipe out?

Hi IvanH. It looks like you will have to do a repair install of Windows 7. Your data will still be on the harddrive but I would back up any important data just in case.

Take a look here, Windows 7 Repair Install.

I didn't use the repair disc. Instead, I login the backup administrator account and deleted the in-trouble user account. There, I can access Control Panel and most features and with fewer blue screen.

It's acceptable now. Bought time to mvoe files out.
    Eventually I'll re-install the Windows 7.

Ok then. Hope the Windows 7 reinstall works without a hitch.
