Which of the two version best for strictly home user?
Premium appears to be only for one computer after install from new disk purchase. Does this apply to the Pro version? Reading information relating to the Pro version - Bios - (locked Hewart Packard), what does this eactly mean?

Both versions normally sell one keycode at a time. You can however find a "three pack" that can be used on three different computers.

Thank you, very informative and helpful. Using Premium version, can it only install on one computer? On buying a new computer, requires a further purchase of Windows 7 Premium or Pro? Making original version redundant. Thanks.

Since the beginning of time - One Key Code per computer for a Windows Operating System.

An exception to the above rule would be store bought computers like Dell and Hp. "IF" you have the Win 7 dvd from Dell or HP - it can be used and loaned out to other Dell and HP users. (you can't mix a dell dvd with an hp machine)

    Hi Bobby,

I started out a few years ago with 32 bit Win7 Home Premium, but soon realized that some of the things I wanted to do required more RAM than HP can access, so I upgraded to 64 bit Win7 Pro.

Then, I discovered that the 64 bit version wouldn't run 16 bit programs, so I installed the virtual XP Pro SP3 program which is 32 bit (and can run 16 bit programs) and is included with Pro.

In a nutshell (also see the screenshot):

    MEMORY
Windows 7 Home Premium supports a maximum of 16GB of installed RAM, whereas Professional can address a maximum of 192GB of RAM. To access more than 3.5GB of RAM, you need the x64 version.

    WINDOWS XP MODE
The primary benefit of this feature is that it includes a licensed copy of Windows XP at no additional cost for Professional. If you use Windows 7 Home Premium you must supply your own XP license (at extra cost) and virtualization software, which may or may not require a paid license.

FWIW, I've been much happier with Win7 Pro than I was with Home Premium.

JSS3rd, I accept that Windows Pro offers extra facilities than Premium, but using computer daily for ordinary use, is the extra £80 ($179) worth having. Remembering of course in emergencies, extra facilities offered with Pro could probably save the day. Thanks.

    Bobby ...

That's something only you can decide. That said, you can find a new version of 64 bit Win7 Pro on eBay for considerably less than that.

I have read several times that some eBay sellers have sold Windows 7 as not genuine copies of Windows 7. Reputable retailers sell copies at rather higher prices but guarantee to be Microsoft genuine item. As we all know once seal is broken no come back.
