I am having considerable problems with my HP Presario CQ5115uk computer.
My question is, can I remove all installed programs installed by HP and in place install Windows 7 Home Premium full version? I fully realise that all software installed by HP, including Factory Settings will be lost and will require the full version of Windows 7 to be installed. Can I just have Windows 7 and my other saved software installed, or is there much more involved?

That is what I always do. Although I use Dell laptops, I format & install a 'retail' version of Windows. The only thing you have to do is download all the drivers for your computer from the manufacturers web site.

Steve R Jones, not rich just trying to enjoy the last but precious years of life. Mind you, computers are just like us, at times need rejunivated with new parts.

I've never used this but a lot of people have... You could used your paid for version of Windows and try it:

The PC Decrapifier that Steve mentions, I downloaded the software and installed. It certainly does what it says, however I must give this software a "Red Alert ". I erased all software not used and HP unwanted titles with
PC-D. Everything was fine until computer was restarted, then all hell was let loose. Each Desktop icon that I opened took ages to initialise and in part computer simply froze, requiring a computer restart. I have no doubt that
PC-D is a good utility and is free, but utmost care must be taken at all times or face the consequences.

Has nothing to do with rich... Windows XP came out in 2001, I had 6 years to save for Vista. For Windows 7 there was only 2½ years. Upgrade from Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate was around $200.
