I am fairly new to Windows 7, having just made the leap to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a new Asus laptop, from XP Pro on an older Dell laptop. I have been running for about 2 months now and one problem I am having is that the system freezes 2 or 3 times a week. Very annoying. How can I figure out where the problems lies? Is the Windows 7 or perhaps even the new Asus? I suspect Windows 7 but I Can't prove that.

    Thanks!

What are you doing at the time of the freezes? Is there a pattern?

Hi, I had the same problem with a new Asus notebook with Win 7 pro installed. I am no computer pro so I can't say what actually cured my problem, I just disabled all the power settings for running on Battery and plug in power.
I havn't had any problems with freezing since. :) Worth a try as I had a feeling and its just a feeling, that background timers etc may have been conflicting with who knows what. I have seen this problem on a number of forums re win 7 and freezing with no definitive answer. All i can say is, I havn't had the problem since doing the above.

Hope that helps and good luck

    No pattern I can discern

I have not seen any pattern that I can figure out. Often it happens over night and I come to a locked up computer in the morning. I have also been in the middle of a browser session and seen it lock up. I have run a variety of anti virus anti spam programs to ensure that it's not that. I am just plain stuck :(

You are not alone Pops! I have been running 7 Home on a Phenom ll x 4 since the RC came along, and I get these occasional freezes too, just not as often. I have tried all the forums that I can find, found no solutions, and I'm not prepared to start digging into my machine or OS as deeply as some of the answers suggest.
I have reported the problem to Microsoft, and until they come up with a solution I shall have to put up with the freezes once or twice a month.
