I bought a new 1TB hard drive USB 3, computer refers HD function best with USB2. Carried out a backup with Windows 7 decided it save all six HDs taking ages to complete, end caption "Did not complete fully ". I again backed up now using I choose, unchecked all boxes except HD C and D. Better save but again saved HD C,D,I,J,G,H,K on HD F (new drive). HD F shows 569GB free of 931GB. Is there a software easy to use with no whistles, other than Windows 7 (64bit) and Acronis True Image that caused havoc with running computer.

I don't use Windows Backup and although I have Acronis through a discount deal, I haven't used it.

    So...I can't compare.

I suggest you check all the drive sizes before you start trying the backup. From what you say, can C,D,I,J,G,H,K fit comfortably in 569GB? Backup programs can compress data, but I only work on an uncompressed space. So I ask myself if all the data could fit, even just copied, not backed-up and compressed.

Files that are already compressed get backed up (compressed again?) to a larger size, not smaller.

What is taking up the space on the F: drive now? 931GB - 569GB = 362GB, what is in that 362GB? Have you deleted the failed back-ups?

With backup programs, I always take one step at a time. I suggest doing one drive each time.

It is easier to eat a cake one bite at a time, rather than trying to swallow it all at once! :D

The F HD is 1TB capacity and is used solely for computer backups.
At present using an alternative backup software named Paragon System 11, costing £19.95. Paragon System11 is very easy to use and appears to carry out backup procedure satisfactory, but still to use the recover procedure.
Windows 7 64bit backup worked OK but periodically error crops up for no apparent reason and to me most if not impossible to erase error.
