What's with the 64-bit again? No browser supports it, no flash in true 64-bit, and even Microsoft's very own Office system is in 32-bit. That's 2 or so years after Vista started the shipment of both x86 as well as x64 versions of Vista.

I just checked what else was in the sparsely populated Program Files (x64) folder. Apple's iTunes. Apple's Bonjour. lol...

When do we get 64-bit systems that actually *benefit* from an x64 installation???

    Thanks, guys! :)

As has been stated several times before the main advantage of x64 is the amount of RAM which can be installed....

    16Gb Home Premium
    128 Mb+ Business and above

Values for Vista, no doubt 7 is the same.

Many users running complex graphics, video editing programs, etc benefit enormously from the ability to use >3.5 Gb RAM.

In due course, as the industry moves to x64 as standard, there will be many more 64 bit programs written.

FWIW Photoshop CS4 is both 32 bit & 64 bit.

THANK YOU! Finally a straight answer on this topic. No maybe this, I don't think that! So...

That means I do not need to run 7 in x64, as I use Vista and 7 for nothing graphic-intensive. In fact, my beloved T60p's motherboard cannot hold more than 3GB.

I'm used to 64-bit now. Sounds like "Downgrading" to Win 7 x86 may not make any difference. Any downsides I should know about?

    Thank you.

No experience of this, but I would think no downsides unless the amount of usable RAM is an issue.

Hey Pete, quick OT question. I may buy another laptop, but it says that the System/Supervisor password is set, and can't be turned on. How does that work again to get rid of it? CMOS battery?? This is for my girl and she needs one "yesterday ".

Anyone else is also welcome to chime in. :)

Removing the CMOS battery may be sufficient, but you will need to check the manual - on my desktop it is necessary to momentarily switch jumpers around.

    I see...Cool, thanks!

Hey y'all: Look what I just found regarding Windows 7. Gulp!

Btw, do we know what the pricing structure is yet? I have a Vista Ultimate Full key (not OEM, and NOT illegal!). I guess I'm the one person that paid for this OS?? Well, after multiple and hefty discounts. :D

Crunch: Regarding the laptop, might it be a Thinkpad (I know your love for Flexviews ;))? If so, the "fix" depends on the kind of password involved. If it is just to protect the hard drive, you can only clear by reinstalling Windows. If it is a BIOS password, the fix is more complicated.
