    Hi
I have two 2003 SP1 servers in workgroup mode and basically they will be media streaming servers and file servers.
This is in a university enviroment so I will need the students to upload there data individually. Now all the students will have there own usernames and passwords and there login password for netware will be different to windows. At the moment when trying to connect to the server share it takes very long too bring up the authentication box. Windows Firewall is on and configured to allow these clients in.
The username and password I am using to connect has full rights.
The username and password I use to log in to the PC (XP Pro) doesnot have a account on the server but the server tries that username and password serveral times.
This is on a Gb/s network.

    Any ideas

    Thanks
    :)

You got me on that one.
That sounds like it will be a nightmare to administrate without some Domain structure.

you will need to take a sniff/trace with network monitor to determine what the delay is.

Based on what you've said about the machine, the clients are probably configured to try to authenticate to the share using novell goo rather than windows goo. That has to go out and then timeout before it tries the next authentication package.

Ill bet you could fiddle with the provider order and make it fast to the windows machines, and slow to the novell stuff.
