This is a two part question. I have read numerous articles pertaining to problems encountered after downloading SP4. If a computer is going to be used for home use only without multiple users, and only a printer, scanner and a DSL connection, should SP4 be installed?

Question #1 Are there any major benefits (or drawbacks) having SP4 installed?

Question #2 What is the best service pack to have installed for a home use computer?

    Thanks.

You have to remember that a Service Pack is nothing more than all the patches, hotfixes, security updates packed into 1 installer.

The only instance I can think of where you would be hesitant of installing the Service Pack is if you are on a development machine. But that is very very rare instance.

On my machine I have the latest Service Pack.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. A neighbor of mine also has Win2k installed on his machine. After he installed SP4 the game which comes with Win2k called "Pin Ball" stopped working. Just curious if SP4 could impact a game. Thanks again.

The service pack should have no bearing on the game as it has no updates. Also it could have been a fluke that the game stopped functioning. He might have installed updated drivers or new hardware that might have caused something to go funny.

99% of the time you don't have to worry about the Service Packs.

Appreciate the info. It could very well be an updated driver or new hardware. Thanks.
