I ******* up my OS I had before (win2k) and dont have the disk to repair it. I do have windows 2000 server, just wondering the advantages and dis-advantages of running it as my OS for a normal PC? (besides having to reformat, if needed)

    Welcome to WIndowsBBS :)

Well 2000 server is a resource pig compared to 2000pro. If you have a pretty beefy pc it'd be ok.

I run many 2K servers and I disagree that they are resource hogs.

With the services tweaked and streamlined and all fileserver specific items removed I find it no different than Pro.

A big plus is the Admin terminal services that will allow you to log in from almost any windows version. It is one of the best things MS has done. Terminal services will blow the doors off PCAnywhere and others .

    So use it!

    Terminal Services VS PCAnywhere

And how does TS blow away PCAnywhere?? I use both. While TS may seem a bit faster, PCAnywhere gives me the actual server screen. Meaning that all messages and programs running on the server are accessable thru PCAnywhere. Not so with terminal services. For example, if I kick off a backup at the server console, I still get to see the backup program from my pc. Not true if I log into the server with TS. It doesn't know anything about the backup in progress, other than the NTBackup service is running.

Point is somethings can be done with PCAnywhere that can't be done with TS. (Not to mention the fact that you can place a limit on the number of TS sessions...ARGH)
