I just installed Windows 2000 Pro on a Compaq Presario 5695 and after shutting down the computer, it will automatically restart itself. Sometimes its after 5 minutes or it could be after a couple of hours. Any ideas on how to stop this? I suspect it is an APM setting, but I can't find the correct one.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Go into the bios and disable anything that looks like it starts the computer.

There will be things like "Wake on Modem/USB" in there., diable them and Bob should be your mothers brother.

Thanks, but I hasd already tried that, and there are no APM settings in this particular BIOS.

I recall having this problem before, but now I can't find my notes. I remember it being a setting in the windows Registry that needed to be changed. It was very obscure.

    Thanks again, though.

If your version has a "fast shutdown" option, you might try disabling that. Should be in your system configuration utility. If I have the right version of that particular machine.
